Monday on my Design Wall.....

Just a quick picture to show how I'm coming along with my Carol Doak blocks that I made and how I'm setting them together.  I'm really happy with it so far.
And of course, it's really much prettier in person.

So now I'm going to link to Judy's Design Wall Monday

Sashing & cornerstones.....

When I started designing this quilt in EQ7 (using Carol Doak's finished blocks) I wanted to spread it out as much as possible to make it a large quilt so I chose to set the blocks on point.  Then the sashing came next.    I decided on a 5" sashing and a square-in-a-square cornerstone.  That's pretty simple!
Then I wanted to dress up the plain sashings a bit so I chose to paper-piece them.

This is my original idea with the sashings and the cornerstones.
Once I started making the sashings and adding them to my design wall I realized very quickly that I wasn't going to like those cornerstones.  They just didn't play nice.  So out with that idea.
I did want to continue the black from the sashings into the cornerstone.
So .....
Of Course!!
A nine-patch would be perfect!
See how it finishes the curve of the sashing?  Love that!!
Here's how it works on one block.
I'm going to link this to Judy's Design Wall Monday.
And....I'm off to get some more sewing done for this quilt.  Yep!  I think the quilt is happy now.  :-)

My Design Wall.....

I now have enough of Carol Doaks blocks made so I put them all up on my wall.    Yes I do think I like this layout.  Now to plan the sashing and see what I can do with them. This is going to be J & Gs Wedding quilt.

And of course since it's Monday I'm going to link over to Judy's Design Wall Monday
Let's go see what some of the others have been up to.

Another Monday....

Ok so I've been MIA for a couple of weeks.  I know!  I do this sometimes.  And I have a pretty good reason this time.  [Don't I always?]  lol
I've been focusing on getting a certain quilt finished and I don't want to show a lot of it since I'm not really sure who reads my blog.
But I can talk about it a bit.  I do have all of the blocks sewn together and was getting ready to attach the simple 6" border .... when I stopped.

You know "they" say that a quilt will tell you what it needs.
Wellllll ....It was telling me to NOT just slap a border on this very pretty top.  So I laid it out on the floor so I could get a good look at it and thought it really didn't need a border.
So there.  I made my decision.
Folded it all up and was getting ready to take it (as is) to my longarm gals.

But NO!  That just wasn't going to be.  I kept pondering that quilt for days and days and then went back to EQ7 and changed the border design and suddenly I knew this was going to work.  One more border to get made and added and THEN it is going to my 'gals'.  I'm happy.  The quilt is happy.

In the meantime I pulled out some of the Carol Doak blocks that I had made this last year and decided to make a few more.  I do love to paper-piece so once I got on a roll I had three blocks made in no time.

So now I'm heading over to check in at Judy's Design Wall Monday and see what other quilters have been up to.
I bet they have much more than I do.  ;-)

I hope you're having a great day. Glad you stopped by.....Linda

I'm making my first mug rug.  Can you believe it?  My first!  I know, I know.... but I usually don't do little things.
Table toppers or place-mats have been the smallest things I've made.
But when Carol Doak gave us a bonus project to paper-piece I decided it would be perfect for Oct and my coffee.  The center is only a 3" x 3".  By adding the border I now have the perfect size for my coffee mug.
Isn't this cat in a pumpkin just the cutest thing?

Carol Doak's paper piecing mystery block (Split Feather)........ One more block finished.
I so enjoy working with these blocks and I'm really looking forward to finding out how she has planned to bring them all together at the end.

Right now this is the only thing on my design wall this morning.  Since I finished my Bento Box I quickly took it to my Quilt Bugs.  Now I think I'll start pulling green scraps and start cutting blocks and strips and see what I can come up with.
So for now why don't you join me over at Judy's Design Wall and check out what other quilters have been up to.  Have FUN!

Today I was able to get caught up on my Carol Doak paper piecing blocks.
This is July's block and I chose to rotate the corners this way.

And here is the August block.  Now I'm caught up until Carol gives out the next block.  I wish my camera would do a better job with the colors.  These are so much richer and darker in real life.

I had a pretty free day yesterday so I was able to stay in my sewing room and work on this months paper pieced block from Carol Doak's 2012 BOM Mystery

This is my favorite part of the whole quilting process.... working on the blocks.  Seeing each one come together so beautifully.  And paper piecing makes that process flawless.

Here's Junes block.  Dove In the Window.

 And this is May's block.

Once I decided I wanted to take part in Carol Doaks paper piecing I knew right away that I wanted to use the rest of these golds and black fabrics that I had leftover from the table runner I made a few weeks ago.  Her directions are for a two color quilt but I'm going to scrappy it up with these.
I'm definitely going to use all the blacks but since I plan to use the golds as all backgrounds those lightest ones may be too white.  I'll see as I go along.

I did the first block today and love the way it come out.  I just can't find anything wrong with paper-piecing.  Everything is just always so perfect.

I just ran across a new BOM this morning as I was blog hopping and checking emails.

Carol Doak has a new 2012 BOM Mystery starting this month and will run for 11 months.
It's a two color mystery and geared to beginners.   ((this is a pic of her fabric choices and her block))

I think I'm going to work on this one since I do like to paper piece and I kinda like a good mystery.  So this combines both.

And I've even got the just perfect fabrics in mind.   Should be fun!
