A Terra Hexie runner ....

It's been awhile since I've posted my hexie project.  I had come to a complete stop on it.  I have the hexie's all stitched together and I'm happy with the top.
But now I'm not sure what to do next.  ???
My first thought was to treat it just like a quilt and sandwich the batting, backing, top.
I've done that ...... but this is not a bed quilt... it's a small runner and I'm not sure I like the 'feel' of it.  It seems so thick to me.
And the batting is a thin batt but for some reason I don't know if I'll be happy with  such a squishy runner.

I do plan to hand quilt it.  (omg what am I saying???)
Let me rephrase that ..... I'm going to try to hand quilt it.
And since I can't decide whether to leave the batting in or take it out  I think I'll probably try to quilt at least one flower to see how it feels then.
I really want to finish this so I can move on and start another hexie project.
And this morning as I was blog hopping I ran across A Quilting Reader's Garden and I know today is not Friday but I'll be linking my hexies there anyway.
I hope you're having a great day. Glad you stopped by.....Linda

  1. Thank you for linking, Linda. It's open til Monday so you're not late, and there's a hexie giveaway. I like your project a lot. What a neat way to make some hexies and be done sooner than a twin size quilt one. If you don't want to use batting, how about a piece of flannel. Myself I would machine applique it to a top piece and use pearl cotton to do large stitch hand quilting. Look forward to seeing yours again.

    1. I did think about flannel but would you believe I have not one piece. I don't use flannel in any of my quilts (I have very weird grandkids that hate the feel haha) so I would have to go buy some. But if I don't like the feel after I quilt that first flower then I'll probably break down and buy some.
And I like your suggestion of quilting a large stitch. At least I think I can do that. haha
      Thanks for stopping by.

  2. I like your hexies - and the link to all of the other eye candy. You could try a polyester low-loft batt - and if that is too thick - try splitting it - it should separate pretty easily - ;))

    1. Well thank you very much Linda. I still haven't started the quilting on it yet because too many other life things have gotten in the way. I loved working on it and plan to get some more cut and ready for when I have the opportunity to sit and sew them.
      Thanks for coming by.
