Slow Stitching....

Even though I haven't posted lately I have been working on some of my Hexies.   When I finally decided what I wanted to do for the background on my 2014 Hexie BOM I went right to work getting some of the fabric cut and basted.
And since I've run out of this particular fabric I'll have to make a run to our LQS.  I'm planning on an assortment of different black on blacks.   And my plan is to scatter all the different black fabrics throughout the quilt.
Here's just a couple of the blocks that I've outlined.  More to come later after I have more fabric.

In the meantime I got out my other project and started working up some more of the blocks.
This is as far as I've gotten on the quilt when I last put it aside.  I do have more blocks made just not sewn to the quilt.

Since I've started hexie(ing) I can't sit and watch TV now without them in my hands.  Love working on them.
I think I'll spend a little time at the machine today but then settle back in my reclyner and enjoy my hexis today/tonight.

Snow & Super Bowl

..... A perfect combination for Slow Stitching on a Sunday.
I've been concentrating on basting LOTS of hexies to get ready to add some more 'blocks' and work on the borders.
I don't think I can squeeze any more into this container.  lol

I did get one more 'block' made and pressed.  And I have about 10 more groups sorted to be ready to just grab and sew whenever I have a minute.
Did I tell you that I love hexies?

I'm heading to link up with Judy's Design Wall Monday  -- and -- Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching.
Let's go see what other quilters have been up too.

But for now..... Have a great day. And stitch happy!

My Hexie project update....

It's been awhile since I've shown my large hexie project.  I've added three more triangles (along the right side) and the background along with them.

It doesn't seem like much progress but I have been concentrating on making triangles.  I have these all ready to go.
For now I'm linking over on Sarah's blog "Help for Hexie-aholics".
Let's go check out what some of the others have made.

Today's Quote of the Day...

Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.
Nathaniel Hawthorne

It's been so long since I've posted and when I opened my blog this morning this quote was here.
Wow!  Fitting huh?
I've been passing time lately by spending it doing bits and pieces of many different projects.  Still sewing blocks together on A & B's Wedding quilt.  I do have some of the rows sewn together and if I'd just get back there and stick with it I'd have this top ready to add the borders.  Instead I've been pretty flighty.  Not able to concentrate on one thing for too long.
I did make another Soupcon hexie flower.  But now the projects have gotten a bit more intricate and I'm afraid I'm not going to have the time right now to devote the time it will take to continue this project.  I am going to continue following her blog because I am learning so much and when I get these two wedding quilts finished then I can focus on trying these new hexie techniques.
Sorry the lighting is so horrible.   This was fun to make.
I am going to continue with the Hexie BOM and this months pattern is a heart.  Of course!
I'm working on basting now.   And when the Olympics start I will definitely be glued to my TV.  I love the Olympics.  Summer & Winter.
I hope you're having a great day. Glad you stopped by.....Linda

Slow Stitching ~ In Hand EPP

I'm going to post a picture of the diamonds I have finished but not added to the quilt yet.  I laid them on the floor just to get an idea.  This is NOT the final layout since I still have many many more combinations yet to finish.  But at least this will give an idea to my plan.
I really need to get back in the groove of working on these whenever I have a spare minute.  Instead of blog hopping and dreaming of 'to-make quilts'.   That fabric doesn't sew itself!!

I'm linking to a couple of blogs this morning.  Kathy's "Slow Sunday Stitching" ..... and ..... Splish Splash Stash "In Hand EPP".  Come join me to check out some of the great projects other quilters are working on.

Hexie Update.....

Here's a quick short update on my Hexie project.
I haven't worked on it as much as I had planned these last couple of weeks but I did manage to get these four 'blocks' made.

I've gotten a lot of basting done and I've sorted some of them into groups for the 'blocks'.   Eight more ready to go.

And still more ready to be sorted.  This is where I store the basted hexies until I get ready to work them up into the blocks.

I'll be linking this to  HELP for Hexie-aholics over on Sarah's blog.   But I might have to wait until she gets the linky posted.

Back to Christmas preparations......

What I've been working on.....

It may not seem like much but I have been stitching each evening and I've made some advancement on my hexie project.  It's now starting to really take shape and I'm soooo enjoying these hexies.  I still haven't chosen the color for the star centers and that first border.  Maybe today.

I decided my fabrics needed to be cleaned up and organized better so I started yesterday.  I've ordered comic book backing boards to use for my fabrics to help them stand firmly on the shelf.   So far I've used 300 and still have probably another 100 different fabrics to do yet.  When I get it all done I'll show you how nice it looks.  Stay tuned.
For now I'm back to folding....... right after I link over on Needle & Thread Thursday.
And .... I'm linking to BillieBee's Hexie Friday Blog.

My Quiet Sunday Stitching.....

I really dislike having to change the time.  I don't like it in the Spring and I don't like it in the Fall.  It just messes up my internal clock.  And I don't need anything else to mess with me that's for sure!  heehee

So I think I'll get out my Hexies today (while I'm cheering our Chiefs) and see if I can get a few more sewn together.  I really haven't worked on them much these last couple of weeks even tho I have managed to sew these three blocks together.  It's a start anyway.

And I'm going to link over on Kathy's Quilts.  Let's go see what others are working on today.

I hope you're having a great day.

Hexie Update.....

I haven't worked much on my hexies lately trying to finish other projects.  But I do have two more 'blocks' to show.
Goodness!!  I really need to clean off the strings on my design wall.  lol  Please act like you don't see them.  ;o)

I hope you're having a great day.

Hexie blocks....

Just for fun I decided to lay all the finished blocks together in sort of the plan I'll be using.
I'm still not liking that one block.  Looks out of place to me.  I tried to find some different fabrics so I could incorporate maybe one or two wild brighter blocks .... but no luck.  At least nothing that I like.
I want this quilt to be calm and quiet and that block just kinda rock & rolls a bit too much.  lol   I'm pretty sure I'll be unsewing that one.

And....I'm a day late but since yesterday was the 17th of the month I'm heading over to Sarah's blog so I can link to her HeLP for Hexie-aholics

I hope you're having a great day.

Slow Sunday....

This last week was one crazy ride.  And I mean that literally!
Ride: as in riding in a car to go to a Dr appt.
From Tuesday through Friday one of us had an appt to keep.  So we were traveling South one day and then North the next.... then wash and repeat.
I think I'm beginning to really dislike the inside of our car!!

Sooooo to help me unwind I've spent yesterday and today basting hexies.  I want to get a good supply ready so I will be able to make each 'block' different.

I've cut more greens and browns but I still need to pull blues and dark reds and perhaps a few dark purples.  Looks like I'll be scrounging in my scrap drawers.   Here are all the basted hexies so far.

And I did get one more block stitched together.   It looks very bright and loud when it's displayed with the others .... so I may not use it in this project.  I'll see.

Here they are all lined up.  See what I mean?  Yeah!  It's bright all right!
I'm going to link to A Quilting Reader's Garden
and since I haven't shared my hand stitching lately I'll link over on Kathy's Slow Stitching Sunday.

Hexie Friday update

I've managed to get a couple of triangles sewn together this week and another one almost finished.

And I also finished the last item that I'll donate for our Guild Auction to be held the first of August October.  I'm rather amazed that I'm ahead of schedule.
Here's the Halloween set:
Today I'll be cutting out the pieces for one more Christmas snuggle quilt.
And I'm a day late but I'm still going to link over on Quilting Readers Garden for Hexie Friday.

Hexie update:

Well.... I have changed my mind again.  Of Course!!  Don't I always?
Now about what I posted last week.... about making a tumbling block pattern.
I don't think so.
I'm going to follow the layout as shown here.
And yes!!  I may just change my mind again along the way.  ;-)

This week I've been focusing on getting ahead with my basting.
I've also started to pull more fabrics so I'll have a greater assortment.

And I do have one more triangle sewn.

A-Terra Hexie Runner....

I have finally finished the hexie runner that I had set aside a while back.   It took the longest time for me to figure out how I wanted to finish it.   My original plan just wasn't going to work so I spent a considerable amount of time looking at google images and saw several that I liked.

I finally settled on adding a small border and doing a straight line quilting grid.   Simple and quick.  Just how I like it.  heehee

I'm very pleased with it now and it is residing on my coffee table in the living room where I can admire My First hexie project completed!!
Woo Hoo!!!

Here's a closer look at the quilting.   I'm calling it A-Terra Hexie.  This is the 6th quilt I've made with these fabrics from Connecting Threads (Aqua Terra.  Has now been discontinued)  And I still have a pretty good pile of scraps left.  I think I'll just separate them out and add them to my scrap drawers.

And now ..... back to my "Bordering on Insanity".

My Slow Stitching Sunday....

I have #2 block finished and I've started on #3.
This is going to be one of those quiet cloudy days and just perfect for a nap later and a day spent stitching up some hexies.
Here's a pic of both of my finished blocks.   That left one seems to have fallen into the cushion.  haha   It's an optical illusion.... they really are both the same size.
I'm heading over to Kathy's blog to link to her Slow Stitching Sunday.

Hexie Friday.....

What a day!  Spent it driving to a Dr for some repeat tests (which turned out very well .... even tho it was a very long two hours).  Off we went to eat lunch and then headed home.  It's been a long day.

And now that it's Hexie Friday I thought I'd show you what I have accomplished this week.  Not much.... but I did get a good start on my second triangle and a few more hexies basted.

Let's head on over to A Quilting Reader's Garden and see what some of the other Hexie sewing gals have done.

I hope you're having a great day. Glad you stopped by.....Linda

Hexagon Friday...

After my little set back last week I have managed to redo a lot of the
de-constructed hexies and I have completed my very first triangle block.  WooHoo!
Looks mighty fine when all the hexies are the same size!!
hahaha
(this measures 14" long x 8¾" wide)
I have made a final decision on the exact pattern I will be working on while I baste these gazillion hexies.  I have a Pinterest board for Hexies and I've been gathering inspiration pins for awhile now.  I fell in love with a quilt called 'Insanity'.  And I also really like this one (no name).  But I realized I don't have enough decades left to make them both sooooo I've decided I will merge them together to make my own design.  I really like the borders on the Insanity but I love the center of the other quilt.
So that is my goal .... two....two .... two quilts in one!
And as I go along I'm sure I'll think of a name.  Right now I'm a blank.  Any suggestions??

I'll be linking over on A Quilting Reader's Garden.   And also links over to BillieBee's

Hexie upset.....

I was being a busy little bee basting away just as happy as could be .... and accumulating quite a nice little pile of different colored hexies that I showed you a week ago.
So I decided I'd sew just one of the triangles together that I want to make for my new project.
So I started sewing and sewing and I had pretty much gotten all of the hexies sewn into a triangle and I was down to the last two.
Now ..... I had noticed along the way that some of the edges were not exactly lining up just right.  But I didn't worry about it and just kept sewing hexies together.
Until.... I tried to make that last hexie fit the space that was left.
It didn't!
Too small!!!!!
What the heck!!???

So I pulled off the fabric from that paper and compared it to some of the other papers and it was smaller!  By only less than an eighth of an inch.
But that was enough to make a difference in the fit.  (I print some of my own papers and that particular print run I guess I didn't do the greatest job of checking printer settings.  I bet I pay better attention from now on).

So I had no choice but to go through all of the papers and remove the smaller ones.  Then I realized I had used several already so I bit the bullet and started stripping off the fabric until I was left with this .....

BOOHOO!!!!
Oh well......  I've now pressed all the squares and have put this behind me and I'm moving forward.  I'm glad I realized what was wrong before I got much further.
I hope you're having a better day than I've had.  lol  Glad you stopped by.....Linda

Hexie Update...

I'm still pondering how I'm going to quilt & finish my first hexie runner.  But while I'm doing that I figured I better get another project going.  What to do?  What to do?
I had a fall colored Jelly Roll on the shelf that I think will do nicely and several Fall Fat Quarters I can pull since that's the color scheme I know I want to work with.   I cut the strips into 2½" squares and I've slowly been basting as I find the time.  See how pretty they are....  And I haven't even used every color yet.

And since it's Friday I was am going to link this post to A Quilting Reader's Garden where she has a Hexie Linky party.  But I just tried to link and it seems she hasn't put her post up yet.  So I'll just wait until I see that she does.
I know life can get in the way sometimes and time can get away from you.
I now see that she has her Linky post up now so I'm heading over to share with her and the other hexie lovers.
Come and join us....

A Terra Hexie runner ....

It's been awhile since I've posted my hexie project.  I had come to a complete stop on it.  I have the hexie's all stitched together and I'm happy with the top.
But now I'm not sure what to do next.  ???
My first thought was to treat it just like a quilt and sandwich the batting, backing, top.
I've done that ...... but this is not a bed quilt... it's a small runner and I'm not sure I like the 'feel' of it.  It seems so thick to me.
And the batting is a thin batt but for some reason I don't know if I'll be happy with  such a squishy runner.

I do plan to hand quilt it.  (omg what am I saying???)
Let me rephrase that ..... I'm going to try to hand quilt it.
And since I can't decide whether to leave the batting in or take it out  I think I'll probably try to quilt at least one flower to see how it feels then.
I really want to finish this so I can move on and start another hexie project.
And this morning as I was blog hopping I ran across A Quilting Reader's Garden and I know today is not Friday but I'll be linking my hexies there anyway.
I hope you're having a great day. Glad you stopped by.....Linda
