My First Shawl

I've just recently decided I wanted to start crocheting again.  I used to do it a lot before I started quilting.  But back then I pretty much only made blanket throws.  So that got boring and took way to long so I put up my hooks and called it good. 
 
But that was then and this is Now and I unpacked those hooks and now I'm making my first shawl.  There are so many new patterns to choose from.  And Ravelry is just fantastic.  It's a site for 'anything' yarn related and I've just recently joined and worked up my own Notebook.  Of course I've spent hours and hours just browsing and picking patterns that I want to make. 

My 1st project is a shawl named  Virus meets Granny shawl .  I chose Unforgettable yarn from Red Heart in colorway Echo .  The picture does not do it justice at all.  The colors are much richer and the yarn is sooo soft. 
This is the first picture taken several days ago and I've added several rows to it and when I just quickly count I think I have around 20 more rows to go.

A quick post to show you what I've been up to when I'm not quilting or reading.
I love to crochet and I ran across a pattern to make a Spiral Scrubbie here.

I had just picked up a cone of Peaches and Cream cotton yarn to make some dishcloths so I sat down and started casting on and following the pattern. It's a simple pattern  but as I got further along with it I decided I really didn't want to make a scrubbie after all.
But I did want dishcloths.  Sooooo

Since I did like the pattern I started making squares (no increasing or decreasing at the beginning & ending).  I'm casting on 21 stitches and working 21 rows.  Single crochet' in the back loop of the stitch to make the ridges.  Quick and easy!
And Oh so nice to use to wash things.

I've finished another scarf today that I made using Bamboo yarn.  Even tho this yarn is a bit more difficult to use because it's so slick...I just love the feel and the look of a project when finished.  I don't think I'd try to knit with it but I can easily crochet it.
I did my own thing as far as a pattern went.  I cast on as many stitches that I thought would work and then did a simple double crochet + 2 stitches until I reached the length I wanted.
I have one more colorway of the bamboo yarn to use so I'll go searching for another easy pattern.

It's a cool 61 degrees today and BBQ ribs are in the crock pot.  I'm heading back to my quilting room to attach binding to a quilt that has been much too long in the UFO pile.  And since it's a rather ugly quilt (the 2nd quilt I made and didn't choose the right fabrics) I've decided to do all the binding by machine.
